Kseniya Rai, a contemporary artist based in Portugal, has gained recognition for her evocative figurative and abstract paintings. Her artwork blends symbolism with visual imagery, creating a sense of tranquility and spiritual harmony, drawing inspiration from her close connection to the ocean and maritime aesthetics.

Kseniya Rai – Blue VR785, 2023

One of her featured works, “Blue VR785” (oil on canvas, 90x90x2 cm), portrays an immersive scene of individuals in water, symbolizing themes of timelessness and human connection. The deep blue colors and ethnic motifs evoke ancient civilizations and the symbolism of water as a source of life. This piece is part of a larger series that integrates a virtual projection, viewable with a smartphone, adding an interactive dimension to her art.

Rai’s style reflects her ability to transition between traditional and modern approaches, creating her own micro-universes where mythology, technology, and spiritual depth intersect. Her work often carries undertones of neo-cubism, surrealism, and abstraction, resonating with the complexities of human relationships and the evolving role of technology in contemporary life.

As a finalist in the category of Painting for the scan.art Emerging Artist Prize 2024, Kseniya Rai’s work will be showcased at the Finalist Exhibition at Bakerhouse Gallery, Graz, Austria, opening to the public on Friday, October 18th, 18:00. Her pieces invite viewers to explore the symbolic depths of blue while questioning the balance between tradition and the future.
